Privacy policy
This policy explains what the Memora iPhone app and its service (“Memora”, “we”) collect, why, and the choices you have. Memora is currently in testing.
Your photos
- Analysis happens on your iPhone. Memora reads the photos you allow it to see (all photos or only the ones you select) to find book ideas. It looks at things such as when and where a photo was taken, whether faces appear, what is in the photo, and any text in it. This analysis, and the book ideas it produces, stay on your iPhone.
- Place names. If place lookup is on (you can turn it off in the app), approximate photo locations are sent to Apple Maps to name places such as a city. Apple handles this under its own privacy policy.
- Saving a book. When you save a book, we store its layout, title, captions and, for each photo in it, the date, size and location recorded with the photo and an identifier that lets your iPhone find it again. The photo images are not uploaded when you save.
- Creating a PDF. The PDF is made on your iPhone. When you create one, Memora also receives a copy of that PDF and its print-ready files, so the book can be prepared for printing later. The app tells you this before you create the PDF. These copies are kept in Memora’s Google Drive.
- Memora never changes or deletes the original photos in your library.
Your account
- Sign-in: your email address, or your Apple or Google sign-in (including an Apple “Hide My Email” address), and your name if you or your sign-in provider gives it.
- Saved details (optional): delivery addresses, the recipient’s name and phone number for delivery, and billing details you choose to save in your profile.
- Orders: printed books are not available yet. When they are, the delivery, billing and contact details of each order will be kept with that order.
Testing data
While Memora is in testing, the app records how it is used — counts, timings and errors — and your answers to a few short questions about your books. This is linked to your account email so we can follow up with you. It never includes your photos, places, book titles or captions. During testing this is part of taking part, and the app explains it when you start.
Notifications and location
- Book-idea reminders are optional and off until you turn them on. They are scheduled on your iPhone.
- If you allow location for reminders, your approximate location is used on your iPhone only, to time reminders. It is not sent to us. You can turn this off in the app, and change the permission in iOS Settings.
Why we use your information
- To provide the app: sign-in, book ideas, saving books and creating PDFs.
- To prepare books for printing, and to support you.
- To improve Memora during testing.
- To keep the service secure and meet legal obligations.
Who processes it for us
We use service providers who process information on our behalf:
- Supabase: sign-in and database, in the EU (Frankfurt).
- Render: our server, in the EU (Frankfurt).
- Google: Drive storage of PDF copies, email delivery, and Google sign-in if you use it.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple, and Maps place names.
We don’t sell personal information, and we don’t share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information and saved books until you delete them or ask us to delete your account. Records of paid orders are kept only as long as the law requires.
Your choices and rights
- Photo access: change which photos Memora can see in iOS Settings → Memora → Photos at any time.
- Saved details: edit or remove saved addresses, edit your billing details, and delete saved books in the app. To have billing details removed entirely, delete your account or contact us.
- Deleting your account: go to Profile → Privacy & data → Delete my account. The Memora team processes the request and emails you when it’s done.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or export your information, or to object to its use. Contact us to use them.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections. Our database allows access only through our own server. Your sign-in session is kept in your iPhone’s Keychain.
Children
Memora is not directed to children, and accounts are for adults. Your photos may include children; how you use those photos is up to you.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date above. If the change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app.
